Webinar: Enhancing Biodiversity in a Changing Climate

This webinar, hosted by the Prairie Regional Adaptation Collaborative (PRAC), will focus on the how climate change could impact the biodiversity of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and how conserving biodiversity and ecosystem services can build climate resilience. An overview presentation by Parks Canada will describe climate change impacts on biodiversity and opportunities to enhance resilience, providing examples from Natural Resources Canada’s Biodiversity Adaptation Working Group Adaptation State of Play report. This presentation will be followed by two case study presentations that feature biodiversity initiatives on the Prairies that are addressing climate change threats to biodiversity while providing co-benefits. The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources will share insights from developing a Dakota Storybook/Field Guide to build ecosystem and cultural resilience through workshops and traditional knowledge sharing. The University of Alberta will present the AdaptWest project and how climate-related data was applied to enhance biodiversity in land-use framework processes in Alberta.
