Social Procurement in The City of Hamilton

FreeSandra Hamilton, the City of Hamilton’s Strategic Adviser for piloting Social Procurement initiatives over the last year will be making a general presentation of her findings on Wed June 19, 2019 from 2.30pm-4.00pm. All City employees, researchers, stakeholders and community influencers who are interested in understanding or advancing a more strategic approach to procurement at The City of Hamilton are welcome.
Is procurement a transactional function, driven by operational speed to market – big contracts, lowest price, fast turnaround – or is it a strategic function designed to align and support key public policy goals?
Social Value goals – Improving lives by structuring contracts to help overcome barriers to employment for people living in poverty, Indigenous Reconciliation and rewarding apprenticeship training;
Rewarding Environmental Leadership -Waste Reduction, Green Energy, Whole Lifecycle Costing; and Community Economic Development- should large contracts be unbundled to provide increased market access for Local, Small, Medium Sized Business Access to city contracts?
